November 27, 2018 | Women's Soccer
UCLA sophomore forward Ashley Sanchez (Monrovia, Calif.) was selected as one of 15 semifinalists for the 2018 MAC Hermann Trophy, based on voting by NCAA Division I soccer coaches.
The MAC Hermann Trophy, presented by World Wide Technology, is the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer and has been awarded annually since 1967. UCLA junior Jessie Fleming was a finalist for the award a year ago.
Sanchez had a dominant 2018 campaign, leading UCLA in all scoring categories with 10 goals, 15 assists and 35 points. The two-time first-team All-Pac-12 player ranks second in the nation in assists and 12th nationally in total points. Sanchez set five school records this season. She tied the school record for assists in a season with 15 and set new UCLA standards for single-game assists (four), consecutive games with a goal or assist (13 and counting), assists in an NCAA Tournament (seven) and career NCAA Tournament assists (11). Her 35 points this season are the most by a Bruin since MAC Hermann Trophy finalist Sam Mewis scored 45 in 2014.
Three finalists will be named on Dec. 7, and the winner will be formally announced at the MAC Hermann Trophy banquet, which will be held at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Jan. 4, 2019.
