Mace Named First-Team Senior CLASS Award All-American

November 29, 2018 | Women's Soccer

Senior defender/forward Hailie Mace has been selected to the 2018 Senior CLASS Award All-America First Team for NCAA Division I women's soccer.

Mace finished her Bruin career as a three-time All-Pac-12 honoree, two-time All-Region and 2017 first-team All-American. She played her first two seasons as a defender and then moved to forward in 2017. As a front-runner, she scored a team-high 15 goals and 33 points and was a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy. Mace missed nearly half of the 2018 season while on U.S. National Team duty, as she was a member of the U.S. squad that won the CONCACAF Women's Championship to earn a berth in the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup. Mace earned her first U.S. Women's National Team start in the tournament, playing as a forward and a defender in the United States' 5-0 win over Panama. She returned for UCLA's final eight games, and, playing at left back, contributed seven goals while helping the Bruins earn four shutouts. Overall for the season, Mace scored nine goals with six assists for 24 points in just 13 games played. In her career, she totaled 24 goals, 12 assists and 60 points.

In the classroom, Mace, a history major, maintained a 3.0 GPA in 2017-18 and was a three-time member of the Director's Honor Roll at UCLA. She has volunteered at events such as the Prime Time Games, a full-inclusion peer-mentor sports program, and I'm Going to College, which encourages and motivates young kids to aspire for a college education.

Mace is only the third Bruin to earn Senior CLASS Award All-America honors, joining Sarah Killion, who was a first-team selection in 2014, and Valerie Henderson, who received second-team honors in 2007.

Winning the Senior CLASS Award for 2018 was CeCe Kizer from Ole Miss.

The Senior CLASS award, chosen by a vote of Division I women's soccer coaches, national soccer media and fans, is given annually to the most outstanding senior student-athlete in Division I women's soccer. In order to be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: classroom, community, character and competition.
