UCLA Earns No. 2 National Seed in NCAA Tournament
November 05, 2018 | Women's Soccer
The UCLA women's soccer team (14-3-1) earned a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament for the second consecutive year and will host Mountain West champions San José State (9-6-6) in the first round on Friday, Nov. 9 at 6pm at Wallis Annenberg Stadium. By virtue of their No. 2 seed, the Bruins would be in line to host through the third round.
The winner of the UCLA-SJSU match will advance to the second round to face either Auburn (12-5-2) or Minnesota (11-8-2). In the other half of the quadrant are North Carolina State, Northwestern, Milwaukee and No. 3 seed Santa Clara.
UCLA and San José State will face each other for just the second time ever. The only other meeting between the two teams occurred 21 years ago in 1997, a 4-1 UCLA victory in Los Angeles.
The Bruins are one of five Pac-12 teams to earn a spot in the Tournament and one of three Pac-12 teams to earn a Top 4 seed, joining No. 1 Stanford and No. 4 USC.
This is UCLA's 22nd overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Bruins have a 61-18-4 all-time NCAA record and have advanced to the Round of 16 or beyond in five of the last six seasons, including a finals berth in 2017 and a championship victory in 2013.
Tickets for Friday's first round match will go on sale Tuesday at the UCLA Central Ticket Office and online at uclabruins.com/tickets. Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for youth/students (w/valid ID).
