KOHALA, Hawaii - Senior Beth Wu shot a bogey-free 70 on Monday at the Nanea Pac-12 Preview and is just three shots back of the lead following one round at the Nanea Golf Club.
On the par-73 layout, Wu, starting on the eighth hole, made five pars in a row before her first birdie on the 13th. Following eight-straight pars, Wu tallied back-to-back birdies on No. 4 and 5, finishing with two more pars.
As a team, the Bruins are in 10th place (+9, 301), but only 12 shots back of a trio of teams tied for first place (California, Oregon and USC).
Junior Mariel Galdiano is tied for 28th after a 2-over 75. She made back-to-back birdies on the third and fourth, two bogeys and a double. Junior Clare Legaspi is tied for 37th (+3, 76), posting two birdies on No. 1 and 7 and five bogeys. Sophomore Vera Markevich is 53rd (+7, 80) after making a birdie on No. 5, six bogeys and a double. Freshman Phoebe Yue is 59th (+11, 84), making one birdie on the 13th, 10 bogeys and a double.
Tuesday's round will be another shotgun start beginning at 9:30 a.m. PT/7:30 a.m. HT. The Bruins will begin on holes No. 11-15 in the order of Wu, Galdiano, Legaspi, Markevich and Yue.
