Trio of Bruins Earn All-Region Honors at NCAA West Regional Championships

SACRAMENTO, Calif. โ€“ Erika Adler, Christina Rice and Colin Burke each raced to All-Region honors, and the UCLA men's and women's cross country teams earned top-10 finishes at the NCAA West Regional Championships on Friday afternoon.

The No. 24 men's team just missed a top-five finish, recording 150 points to place sixth in the 10K raceย behind No. 4 Portland (77), No. 7 Washington (82), No. 9 Boise State (102), No. 5 Stanford (110) and No. 11 Oregon (149). Burke, a redshirt junior, led the way with an 11th-place finish, posting a time of 29:49.2.

The Bruin women took seventh overall, accumulating 215 points. Adler placed 14th with a time of 19:56.5, while Rice also earned All-Region honors at 23rd place (20:20.65).

WOMEN'S RACE
Once again, Adler directed the squad at the front of the pack for the Bruin women. She found herself tied for 10th at the 5:26.3 mark of the race, followed by a 2.5-mile time of 14:33.6. Her final tally of 19:56.5 was the second-best 6K time of her Bruin career, and the Irvine, Calif., native made a big jump from her 2017 finish at the West Regionals, where she placed 60th (20:58.3).

Rice, also a sophomore, crossed the finish line at the 20:20.7 mark to notch a career-best 6K time. After 2.5 miles, she found herself in the top 20, sitting at 19th with a time of 14:52.0.

Jackie Garner followed at 52nd with a time of 21:02.5, while Lilly Schmidt (62nd overall; 21:10.1) and Claire Markey (71st, 21:16.0) rounded out the scoring for the Bruins.

MEN'S RACE
At the 3.1-mile mark, Burke rose 20 spots in the pool, posting a split time of 15:12.6. He kept that momentum into the final stretch of the race, ultimately earning his 11th-place finish.

Garrett Reynolds, who leaped 18 spots to climb into the top 20 early in the race, placed second among the Bruin men and 28th overall with a time of 30:06.8.

Racing in his first-ever 10K race as a Bruin, redshirt junior Millen Trujillo took 32nd with a time of 30:10.2, while Cole Smith raced his way to 41st place with a mark of 30:24.7.

Carter Blunt shouldered the load for the men early, clocking a one-mile time of 4:55.7 to sit in sixth place before later posting a 10K time of 30:30.0 to place 43rd. Chris Morzenti followed and was the final scorer for the Bruin men, placing 73rd with a time of 30:57.6. ย
