
No. 13 UCLA Shuts Out Portland, 13-0

LOS ANGELES - Jon Olsen tossed seven shutout innings and Chase Strumpf drove in four runs with a home run and a double as the No. 13 UCLA baseball team defeated Portland, 13-0, on Saturday from Jackie Robinson Stadium. Ryan Kreidler and Will McInerny each hit their first home runs of the season in the win.
Olsen surrendered just four hits in his 7.0 innings of work and collected seven strikeouts to earn the win. Portland's Corbin Powers suffered the loss allowing eight runs on nine hits in four innings.
Offensively, Kreidler went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, Michael Toglia collected two hits to go along with three runs scored, whileย Kyle Cuellar and Garrett Mitchell each plated two runs.
UCLA jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after the first inning when Strumpf hit a three-run home run over the left-center field wall to plate Daniel Amaral and Toglia.
The Bruins added a run in the third inning on a Cuellar sacrifice fly and then put up three runs in the fourth inning to go up 7-0. Kreidler scored Jake Hirabayashi and Jake Pries with a single to left field followed by McInerny hitting a opposite field solo home run just inside the right-field foul pole.
UCLA tacked on five runs in the eighth inning highlighted by Kreidler hitting a solo home run to left field and Mitchell ripping a single up the middle to bring in Toglia and Jack Stronach.
Ryan Garcia and Kyle Mora combined to throw 2.0 shutout innings in relief for the Bruins without allowing a base runner to close the game.
UCLA (2-0) finished the game with 13 runs on 14 hits with no errors, while Portland (0-2) totaledย four hits with no errors.
UCLA will play the series finale against Portland on Sunday at 1 p.m. PT from Jackie Robinson Stadium.
