LOS ANGELES - Redshirt freshman Aaliyah Jordan had two hits and four RBI, redshirt sophomore Rachel Garcia recorded two hits and two RBI and senior Selina Ta'amilo went the distance in the circle, striking out nine, as the fourth-ranked Bruins completed a sweep of #24 Oregon State on Monday with a 7-5 victory at Easton Stadium.
The Bruins improved to 28-2 overall and 4-2 in Pac-12 play, while the Beavers fell to 19-13 and 2-4 in league action.
Ta'amilo moved to 6-1 on the season, giving up three earned runs (five total), eight hits and two walks in her seven innings. She retired the side in order in the fifth and fanned a pair in the first, fourth and seventh frames. The Bruins had eight hits from five different players, as freshman Kinsley Washington added two hits.
UCLA scored the first seven runs of the game, starting with two in the first. Freshman Briana Perez reached on a leadoff error, senior Kylee Perez walked, each moved up on a wild pitch and both came home on a Jordan single up the middle.
The Bruins added five in the second, opening the inning by loading the bases when junior Paige Halstead reached on an error, junior Zoe Shaw walked and Washington singled up the middle. One out later, Kylee Perez tapped one to first, but the ball was bobbled by the Beavers, as junior Imani Johnson, who was running for Halstead, scored the Bruins' third run. Another two-run single up the middle by Jordan plated Shaw and Washington to make it 5-0. After junior Brianna Tautalafua reached on a fielder's choice to again load the bases, Garcia singled up the middle to score Perez and Jordan to up the lead to 7-0.
Oregon State closed the gap with two in the third on RBI singles by Jessica Garcia and Alysha Everett, a solo home run in the fourth by Camryn Ybarra and two in the seventh on a two-run single from Everett. The Beavers would have the go-ahead run at the plate with two outs, but Ta'amilo registered her final strikeout of the game to finish off the sweep.
The Bruins head to Salt Lake City this weekend to take on Utah in a three-game series, which starts on Thursday at 5 p.m. PT. The series continues on Friday at 5 p.m. PT and concludes on Saturday at 12 p.m. PT. All three games will be televised on Pac-12 Networks.
