MIAMI -- No. 2 UCLA won its 16th consecutive dual with a 5-0 victory over No. 12 FIU (16-6) on Friday morning at Lummus Park Beach Courts.
The Bruins, who improved to 21-3 on the season, will conclude the first day of the tournament against No. 18 Florida Atlantic this afternoon.
UCLA earned the first point of the dual on court five when freshman Megan Muret and junior Izzy Carey defeated FIU's Marianna Dal Pozzo and Taija Thomas in straight sets, 21-18, 21-19.
Then junior Sarah Sponcil and sophomore Lily Justine put an end to their losing skid with a straight-set victory over the Panthers' Anabela Sataric and Dorina Klinger on court two, 21-18, 21-17.
Juniors Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara clinched the dual with a two-set win on court one over Florida International's Federica Frasca and Margherita Bianchin, 21-17, 23-21.
Senior Elise Zappia and freshman Mac May put the Bruins up 4-0 with a straight-set win over FIU's Lina Bernier and Madison Besterfield, 28-26, 21-15.
On court three, junior Zana Muno and sophomore Savvy Simo rallied to defeat the Panthers' Estefanie Bethancourt and Natalia Giron, 18-21, 21-13, 15-7.
In an exhibition match on court six, freshman Cami Sanchez and sophomore Chanti Holroyd took down FIU's Mackenzie Walker and Erin Byrne, 21-17, 21-15.
