No. 2 UCLA Sweeps FAU, 5-0

The Bruins won their 17th consecutive dual on Friday afternoon at the Surf & Turf Invitational.

MIAMI -- No. 2 UCLA won its 17th consecutive dual with a 5-0 victory over No. 18 Florida Atlantic (14-10) on Friday afternoon at Lummus Park Beach Courts at the FIU Surf 'N' Turf Invitational.

The Bruins, who improved to 22-3 on the season, will return to action tomorrow in the final day of the tournament in Miami, Fla. UCLA will open up with No. 8 South Carolina at 5:50 a.m. PT and conclude the day with No. 11 Grand Canyon at 8:50 a.m. PT.

Junior Sarah Sponcil and sophomore Lily Justine secured the first team dual point with a straight-set win on court two over FAU's Gabby Dishler and Jess Kinlaw, 21-18, 21-11.

The Bruins got their second point on court five when freshman Megan Muret and junior Izzy Carey defeated Florida Atlantic's Brittany Pellitteri and Julia Lewkoicz, 23-21, 21-10.

UCLA's junior Zana Muno and sophomore Savvy Simo clinched the dual on court three, posting a two-set victory over the Owls' Erica Brok and Mackenzie Morris, 21-15, 21-12.

Juniors Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara put the Bruins up 4-0 with a straight-set win on court one over FAU's Carly Scarbrough and Amanda Silva, 21-11, 24-22.

Senior Elise Zappia and freshman Mac May completed the 5-0 sweep with a two-set win over the Owls' Nicole Navarro and Kaila Dorish, 21-13, 21-18 on court four.

In an exhibition match on court six, freshman Jamie McQuarrie and sophomore Chanti Holroyd rallied to take down FAU's Nicole Grant and Ashlan Cummingham in three sets, 19-21, 21-16, 15-4.
