No. 15 UCLA Surges Past USC, 19-2

LOS ANGELES – Michael Toglia drove in seven runs on two home runs, while Daniel Amaral went 3-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs as the No. 15 UCLA baseball team earned a 19-2 win on Saturday against USC at home at Jackie Robinson Stadium. With the victory, the Bruins earn the series win after defeating the Trojans 16-1 last night.
Zach Pettway (6-1) improved to 3-1 in league play tossing 6.2 innings allowing two runs and scattering six hits with four strikeouts.
The Bruins were also led offensively by Kevin Kendall collecting four base hits with a home run and four runs scored and Chase Strumpf scored five runs and tallied three base hits including a double.
UCLA jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after the first inning as Kendall hit a solo home run to right-center field followed by Amaral scoring Strumpf with a RBI-single to center field.
USC got a run back in the second inning, but the Bruins would put up three runs in the bottom half of the third. Amaral started the scoring with a triple to right-center field, followed by Garrett Mitchell and Will McInerny each recording RBI-singles for the 5-1 advantage.
Both teams traded runs in the fourth inning before UCLA tacked six in the fifth inning. Amaral scored on a wild pitch followed by Jeremy Ydens plating Mitchell with an infield single and Strumpf hit an RBI-double. Toglia would then hit a huge three-run home run to left field for a 12-2 lead.

The Bruins brought home four more runs in the seventh inning highlighted by pinch-hitter Jake Hirabayashi scoring a run with a single to left-field and Amaral plating a pair with a double to center field.
Toglia hit his second home run of the game and the ninth of the season in the eighth inning as he blasted a three-run shot to left field for the final score of 19-2.
Solomon Bates (3-2) suffered the loss for the Trojans allowing six runs on eight hits in 4.0 innings of work.
UCLA (24-10, 13-4) scored 19 runs on 19 hits with no errors, while USC (18-17, 6-11) finished the game with two runs on seven hits with no errors.
The series finale between UCLA and USC will be played on Sunday at noon PT at Jackie Robinson Stadium. The game will be televised on the Pac-12 Network.
