April 22, 2018 | Baseball
LOS ANGELES โ Daniel Rosica drove in two runs and Ryan Garcia tossed 6.0 scoreless innings as the No. 15 UCLA baseball team earned the series sweep over USC with a 7-3 victory on Sunday from Jackie Robinson Stadium. With the win, the Bruins improve to 14-4 in Pac-12 play and have won seven-consecutive conference games.
Garcia (4-0) earned his second win in Pac-12 play this season surrendering just two hits over six shutout innings of work with five strikeouts.
Daniel Amaral scored twice for the Bruins and went 2-for-3 at the plate, while Chase Strumpf and Jeremy Ydens each collected two doubles and Michael Toglia registered two hits and an RBI.
Holding a 3-2 lead, UCLA would score four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to go up by five. Strumpf led off the frame with a double followed by Toglia bringing him home with another double down the left-field line. Pinch-hitter Jack Stronach would rip the first pitch he saw down the first-base line for a RBI-single then Garrett Mitchell hit an RBI-double to right field. Mitchell would then come around to score on a wild pitch for the fourth run of the frame and a 7-2 lead.
UCLA scored the first run of the game in the second inning when Rosica dropped down a perfect squeeze bunt in front of the plate to allow Jake Pries to slide home safely.
The Bruins added a run in the fourth inning as Amaral led off the frame with a single through the left side of the infield and later scored on a wild pitch.
UCLA tacked on one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning to make the score 3-0 as Rosica drove in his second run of the game with a two-out single up the middle to plate Amaral.
