April 21, 2018 | Football
The White team came away with a 16-10 win over the Blue team as Head Coach Chip Kelly's Bruins wrapped up spring football with the annual Spring Game presented by Wescom, on Saturday in Drake Stadium.

Linebacker Krys Barnes picked off quarterback Devon Modster's second pass attempt on the opening drive of the game to set the White team up with a short field. Five plays later redshirt freshman quarterback Austin Burton found true freshman receiver Chase Cota for a two-yard scoring pass to put the White into the lead. Andrew Strauch booted the conversion through for a 7-0 edge.
ย
On his second possession, Modster directed an eight-play scoring drive for the Blue which resulted in a 22-yard field goal by JJ Molson. Burton then led the White team back down the field, using a 52-yard pass play to Damian Alloway to help set up a Strauch field goal attempt. However, the kick sailed wide from 38 yards and the first quarter ended at 7-3.
ย
The White tacked on a couple of points following a bad snap on a punt attempt which rolled through the end zone for a safety. Burton then led the White team on a nine-play drive which culminated on a one-yard run by the quarterback. Strauch added the extra point to push the White team's advantage to 16-3.
ย
Linebacker Jayce Smalley recovered a bad snap from center to set up the Blue team at the White 35-yard line. A few plays later, Matt Lynch hit Theo Howard in the corner of the end zone from 22-yards out and Molson added the conversion to narrow the gap to 16-10. The Blue had one more drive, but the White defense stiffened and the game ended on a Moses Robinson-Carr sack of Modster.
ย
Burton finished with 110 yards passing after completing six of eight passes, including one for a touchdown. Joshua Kelley led the running backs with 25 yards on five carries. Soso Jamabo had the long run of the day at 23 yards. Howard had three catches for 34 yards and a touchdown. Alloway caught two passes for 65 yards. The defenses registered three interceptions on the day --- Barnes, Mo Osling, Elijah Gates and three sacks --- Robinson-Carr, Leni Toailoa, Rahyme Johnson.
