UCLA Races No. 12 USC at Port of Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES – The UCLA women's rowing program faced No. 12 USC at the Port of Los Angeles near San Pedro, Calif., on Saturday morning in the annual crosstown showdown.
 
USC defeated UCLA by a 5-2 count in the final point total. Saturday's dual meet included the following point system – the varsity eight (V8+) race was worth three points, the second varsity eight (2V8+) race was worth two points, while the varsity four (V4+) and third varsity eight (3V8+) races registered one point each.
 
USC crossed the finish line ahead of UCLA in the varsity eight and varsity eight races. UCLA's varsity four crew recorded a first-place finish, as did the Bruins' third varsity eight boat.
 
Saturday morning's races began with the varsity eight race, where USC posted a first-place time of 7:15.60. The Bruins crossed the finish line in 7:28.50.
 
USC's second varsity eight crew defeated UCLA with a time of 7:30.80. The Bruins registered a final time of 7:39.90.
 
UCLA's varsity four bested the Women of Troy, clocking in with a time of 8:25.20. USC's V4+ registered a final time of 8:39.20.
 
The Bruins' third varsity eight won the final race of the morning, posting a time of 7:47.80, well ahead of USC's 3V8+ crew (8:12.30) and the Bruins' novice eight boat (8:25.50).
 
UCLA will head to the Sacramento region for the season-culminating Pac-12 Championships on Sunday, May 13. The league races will take place on Lake Natoma (Gold River, Calif.).
