STANFORD, Calif. -- No. 1 UCLA tied a school record with its 24th consecutive dual victory on Sunday morning with a 5-0 sweep over Pacific (8-9) in the third match of the Stanford West Coast Classic at Stanford's Beach Volleyball Stadium. It marked the Bruins' 15th 5-0 sweep of the season.
The Bruins, who improved to 29-3 on the season, conclude the tournament at No. 13 Stanford (13-7) at Noon on the Pac-12 Networks.
The Bruins opened the dual with Pacific with three wins on the first flight on courts four, five and six. In exhibition play, freshmen Cami Sanchez and Jamie McQuarrie defeated Pacific's Hanne De Schrijver and Olivia Petnicki in straight sets, 21-13, 21-17 on court six. Then junior Izzy Carey and freshman Megan Muret put the Bruins up 1-0 with a 21-14, 21-15 win over the Tigers' Taylor Poncetta and Ashlyn Fleming on court five for their 24th straight victory. The final bout on court four went three sets as senior Elise Zappia and sophomore Madi Yeomans withstood a challenge from Pacific's Emily Baptista and Maycie LaBass to win 21-17, 23-25, 15-8.
The second flight featured courts one, two and three. The Bruins sealed the dual victory on court three as freshman Mac May and sophomore Savvy Simo paired together to take down Pacific's Katrin Gotterba and Alex Holt in straight sets, 21-17, 21-18. UCLA went up 4-0 with a three-set thriller on court four with sophomore Madi Yeomans and senior Elise Zappia defeating the Tigers' Emily Baptista and Maycie LaBass, 21-17, 23-25, 15-8. The Bruins completed the sweep on court one when juniors Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara defeated Pacific's Andie Shelton and Skylar Wine in two easy sets, 21-8, 21-9.
