BRYAN, TEXAS - The 26th-ranked Bruins maintained their position of fourth place all Regional long and clinched their spot to the upcoming NCAA Championships later this month. UCLA shot a 2-over 290 on Wednesday at the Traditions Club to finish at 2-over 866. Also joining the Bruins in Stillwater, Okla. and the Karsten Creek Golf Club on May 25-30 will be Texas A&M (-27, 837), Clemson (-18, 846), Baylor (-7, 857) and Kentucky (+10, 874).
For the second round in a row, freshman Devon Bling had the round of the day for the Bruins with a second-straight, 3-under 69. He finished in a tie for eighth at 5-under 211. Starting on the 10th hole, he birdied his first two, as well as No. 14, to go with two bogeys on the back nine. On the front nine, Bling recorded three birdies on the second, sixth and eighth, closing with a bogey.
Junior Cole Madey tied for 11th at 2-under 214, shooting an even-par 72 on Wednesday. He made three birdies on No. 15, 6 and 7 and three bogeys. Sophomore Hidetoshi Yoshihara tied for 35th (+6, 222). He posted a 3-over 75 on two birdies (No. 15 and 1) and five bogeys. Senior Tyler Collier and freshman Eddy Lai both tied for 40th (+7, 223). Collier shot a 2-over 74, making four birdies (No. 15, 4, 8 and 9), four bogeys and a double. Lai had a 3-over 75, notching four birdies (No. 10, 15, 4 and 6), four bogeys and a triple.
The NCAA Championships will take place May 25-30 at the Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla. The first three days (May 25-27) will feature stroke play, with the Top 15 teams and nine individuals advancing to the final round of stroke play on May 28. Following play on May 28, the top eight teams for match play will be determined, as will the individual winner. The quarterfinals and the semifinals of match play will take place on May 29, with the championship on May 30. Live coverage of the final round of stroke play and all rounds of match play will be televised live on Golf Channel.
