No. 16 UCLA Falls at No. 2 Oregon State, 4-1

CORVALLIS, Ore. โ€“ Will McInerny recorded two hits and Jeremy Ydens drove in a run as the No. 16 UCLA baseball team fell at No. 2 Oregon State, 4-1, in the second game of a three-game series on Friday from Goss Stadium.

OSU's Bryce Fehmel (9-1) earned the win tossing 6.2 innings allowing one run on three hits with five strikeouts and four walks. Zach Pettway (8-4) suffered the loss allowing three runs on three hits over 5.1 innings of work with four strikeouts.

After five scoreless innings to start the game, UCLA loaded the bases in the sixth inning as McInerny hit an infield single followed by Kevin Kendall and Michael Toglia drawing walks, but were unable to score the first run of the game as a pop up to the shortstop ended the inning.

Oregon State scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the first lead of the game. With the bases loaded, Tyler Malone grounded out to the pitcher to plate the first run of the game, followed by the next batter Kyle Nobach hitting a three-run home run to left field.

UCLA got a run back in the seventh inning to make the score 4-1 as Ryan Kreidler drew a two-out walk and came around to score on a single to center field off the bat of Ydens.

Kevin Abel picked up his first save of the season for the Beavers tossing the final 2.0 innings without allowing a run and collecting four strikeouts.

UCLA (35-19, 18-11) scored one run on three hits with no errors, while Oregon State (44-9-1, 20-8-1) ended the game with four runs on five hits with no errors.

The regular-season finale for UCLA and Oregon State will be played on Saturday starting at 2 p.m. PT from Goss Stadium. The game will be televised on ESPNU.

Game Notes: Will McInerny recorded his first career multi-hit game โ€ฆ Jeremy Ydens drove in his 37th run of the season โ€ฆ Kyle Mora made his 31st appearance of the season while Garrett Barker made his 29th โ€ฆ UCLA is 12-11 on the road this season.
