LOS ANGELES – A quartet of Bruins were named to the Pac-12 Women's Tennis All-Academic Team, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Senior Terri Fleming, junior Alaina Miller, and sophomores Jada Hart and Ena Shibahara each garnered Honorable Mentions from the Pac-12. UCLA's four honorees are tied for the fourth-most in program history, just one off the team record of five (2006, 2007, 2016).
Fleming, an Atlanta, Ga. native, joined an exclusive club after receiving her third career Pac-12 All-Academic Award, becoming just the 10th Bruin ever to accomplish that feat. It was the first career league all-academic nod for the other three.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and compete in at least 50 percent of the team's matches.
Playing mostly on singles court three, Fleming wrapped up a four-year career in Westwood with a 16-14 record in 2018. She partnered with Hart to form one of the top doubles tandems in the country, as the duo entered the postseason ranked No. 7 by the ITA.
Miller was dominant for the Bruins on singles court six and doubles court three this last season, going 23-5 in singles and 26-6 in doubles. She lost just once in her final 19 singles matchups, while she and partner Ena Shibahara went unbeaten in their final 19 doubles matches of the year.
Hart had a rock-solid sophomore season for UCLA, going 27-11 in singles playing mostly on court two and 29-15 in doubles. She entered the postseason ranked No. 33 in the country and was one of two Bruins to qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship.
Last but not least, Shibahara had another standout season for UCLA in 2018. The sophomore, ranked No. 9 in the country, was 27-10 in singles play and 28-4 in doubles play. She took home Pac-12 Singles Player of the Year for the second straight season, was named the ITA Player to Watch for the Southwest Region, and advanced to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Singles Championship.
