GULF SHORES, Ala. -- No. 1 UCLA saw its school-record dual match winning streak of 31 come to an end on Friday afternoon as No. 4 Florida State (32-6) defeated the Bruins, 3-1, in the second match of the 2018 NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship at Gulf Shores Public Beach.

The Bruins, who fell to 36-4 on the year, will now face No. 7 LSU (27-13) tomorrow at Noon PT/2:00 p.m. CT in the contender's bracket with the match televised live on ESPNU and all five courts streamed on ESPN3.

"I think they all learned from today and everyone had a chance to speak in our huddle after the match," UCLA Head Coach Stein Metzger said. "I think we played like we played Hawai'i at the beginning of the year, a little tentative and a little safe. We are at our best when we attack and are aggressive. We are going to get back to that because that's UCLA volleyball."

The Seminoles put the first point on the board on court five when Francesca Goncalves and Madison Fitzpatrick defeated Izzy Carey and Megan Muret in straight sets, 21-16, 21-19.

UCLA tied the dual at 1-1 when juniors Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara defeated FSU's Vanessa Freire and Tory Paranagua in straight sets, 21-19, 21-19.

FSU took a 2-1 lead after Sara Putt and Macy Jerger defeated UCLA's junior Zana Muno and sophomore Savvy Simo on court three in two sets, 21-14, 21-18.

The Seminoles clinched the dual on court four with a tight two-set win by Brooke Kuhlman and Molly McBain, 21-18, 28-26, over UCLA's senior Elise Zappia and freshman Mac May.
