
UCLA Advances with 10-4 win over Gonzaga

MINNEAPOLIS โ Ryan Garcia tossed 7.2 innings with nine strikeouts, while Jake Pries and Daniel Amaral both drove in two runs as the No. 2 seed UCLA baseball team advanced in the NCAA Minneapolis Regional with a 10-4 win over Gonzaga on Sunday from Siebert Field. The Bruins will now play No. 1 seed Minnesota later today needing to win to force a Regional-deciding game on Monday.
Garcia (7-1) earned the win throwing 7.2 innings allowing three runs, one earned, on three hits with nine strikeouts. Gonzaga's Mac Lardner (7-3) suffered the loss allowing five runs on nine hits in 6.1 innings of work with seven strikeouts.
UCLA's offense was also led by Chase Strumpf with two doubles and two runs scored, while Michael Toglia went 2-for-3 with an RBI-double and scored three times and Garrett Mitchell drove in three runs.
UCLA jumped to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Pries ripped a two-out, two-run single into left field to plate Kevin Kendall and Strumpf.
The Bruins tacked on another run in the second inning as Toglia smacked a double off the base of the wall in left-center field to bring home Jeremy Ydens with two outs. UCLA made it a five-run game in the sixth inning when Amaral plated two runs with a single through the left side of the infield to bring in Strumpf and Toglia.
Gonzaga got one back in the seventh inning but the Bruins responded with a three-run top of the eighth inning as they loaded the bases for Mitchell who lined a bases-clearing triple into right field to make the score 8-1.
After the Zags cut it to 8-4, UCLA pushed its lead back to six runs when pinch-hitter Jack Stronach hit a two-run double down the right-field line.
UCLA (38-20) scored 10 runs on 13 hits with one error, while Gonzaga (33-24) finished the game with four runs on seven hits with one error.
