Five UCLA Rowers Honored by CRCA
June 04, 2018 | Women's Rowing
Junior Saskia Budgett has been named an all-conference team selection by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA), as announced Monday.
ย
In addition, UCLA has had four student-athletes secure CRCA National Scholar-Athlete recognition โ senior Jasmine English, juniors Lucy Jepson and Lanea Tuiasosopo and sophomore Haley Tong.
ย
Budgett, hailing from Lausanne, Switzerland, has rowed in the Bruins' top varsity eight crew through each of her three collegiate seasons. She was named an All-Pac-12 selection at the conclusion of her junior year, being one of 12 student-athletes named to the All-Pac-12 team.
ย
The CRCA has replaced its previous all-region awards with the all-conference teams, set to recognize the outstanding performances of rowers and coxswains from each Division I rowing conference.
ย
Student-athletes are eligible for the CRCA's National Scholar-Athlete awards once in their second, third or fourth years of eligibility. In addition, student-athletes must have rowed in a minimum of 75 percent of the current spring races and have compiled a 3.5 or higher cumulative grade-point average.
ย
This marks the third CRCA National Scholar-Athlete award for English and the second for Tuiasosopo. Both Jepson and Tong have captured CRCA National Scholar-Athlete acclaim for the first time in their careers.
ย
In addition, English was honored as one of UCLA's two Scholar-Athletes of the Year at the year-end scholar-athlete banquet on May 14. The department's two student-athletes (one male, one female) with the highest cumulative grade-point averages are honored each season as the Scholar-Athletes of the Year.
