Frazier to Compete for UCLA at U.S. Championships

August 15, 2018 | Gymnastics

Freshman Margzetta Frazier will representย UCLA at this weekend's U.S. Gymnastics Championships in Boston's TD Garden. The senior women's championships begin on Friday, Aug. 17 and conclude on Sunday, Aug. 19.

Frazier, who trained at Parkettes prior to arriving at UCLA, will be competing in her fifth U.S. Championships. She made the U.S. National Team for the first time last year after a fifth-place all-around finish at the 2017 P&G Championships and earned her first international assignment in March of 2018, finishing second in the all-around at the Birmingham World Cup. Frazier is the first female gymnast to represent a collegiate team since then-Bruin junior Vanessa Zamarripa competed in 2010. Zamarripa finished eighth in the all-around and second on vault to make the National Team.

Frazier will be coached by a pair of UCLA coaches and Olympians โ€“ Associate Head Coach Chris Waller and Volunteer Assistant Coach Jordyn Wieber. Waller, who has won a total of seven NCAA championships as a gymnast and coach, was a member of the 1992 U.S. Olympic team and coached Mohini Bhardwaj at the 2004 Olympic Games. Wieber, a two-time U.S. national all-around champion and the 2011 World all-around champion, helped lead the U.S. team to gold at the 2012 Olympics. Wieber becomes the first female Olympic gold medalist to coach an athlete at the U.S. Championships.

The Olympic Channel, NBC Sports and NBCSN will provide live coverage of the competition. Additionally, fans can watch online at NBCSports.com/live, or through the NBC Sports app. The first day of the senior women's competition is Friday, Aug. 17 at 5pm PT.
