The Bruins were led by sophomore Quinten Osborne, who scored UCLA's only two goals in the fourth quarter. He was the only Bruin to record more than one goal as eight different Bruins scored one goal apiece. Redshirt junior Alex Wolfย played the entire game in the cage for the Bruins, recording eight saves while allowing seven goals.
Senior David Stilingย scored the only goal of the first period for either team on a power play goal (7:31) on the game's first possession.
Leo Yunoย got the Gauchos on the board to tie it at 1-1 with a goal from distance to open the scoring in the second quarter (2:34). Making his first appearance of the season, freshman Jake Cavanoย put the Bruins up 2-1 with a strike from the front court (2:11). But UCSB would score back-to-back goals (1:01 and 0:38) to take a 3-2 lead into the break.
But the third quarter belonged to the Bruins. Senior Warren Snyder tied the game at 3-3 with a power play goal (6:55) off a nice feed from freshman Ashworth Molthen. Then sophomore Nicolas Saveljicย scored on a counter off another assist from Molthen (5:32) to give UCLA a 4-3 lead and the Bruins never looked back. Sophomore Felix Brozyna-Vilimย made it 5-3 from two meters off another assist by Molthen (4:54). Jacob Halle would score the only goal for UCSB in the period from the front court (4:32) to cut the lead to 5-4. But senior Austin Roneย would add a power play goal (2:18) off a feed from Cavano and sophomore Evan Rosenfeldย would score from the front court (1:29) off a pass from sophomore Luke Henrikssonย to push the lead to 7-4. Molthen then got in on the scoring with a score from the front court (0:53) to end the scoring in the third with the Bruins leading 8-4.
Boris Jovanovicย would complete a hat trick with back-to-back scores to open the fourth quarter (6:33 and 5:26) to trim the lead to 8-6. But Osborne netted his first from two meters (4:57) to calm the storm. After a power play score from Yuno, his second goal of the game (1:52), Osborne ended any chance of a Gaucho rally with another goal at set (1:35) to provide the 10-7 final.
The Bruins return to action on Saturday, Sept. 15 when they host No. 10 Pepperdine at Noon, followed by Loyola Marymount at 2:00 p.m. PT at Dirks Pool at Spiekerย Aquatics Center. UCLA will conclude with the annual Alumni Game at 3:30 p.m. PT.
