Rowing Program Seeks Walk-on Athletes

September 18, 2018 | Women's Rowing

The UCLA women's rowing program will host an informational meeting for undergraduates interested in trying out for the 2018-19 rowing team. The meeting will take place Thursday, Sept. 27, at 5 p.m. (J.D. Morgan Center, Press Room).

Students who have high school athletic experience and are looking for an exciting and rewarding challenge are encouraged to join the women's rowing team. Do you think you have what it takes to be a student-athlete at UCLA? Are you interested in adding to the storied legacy of this incredibly successful athletic department? Athletes are wanted!

No previous rowing experience is necessary.

Rowing is among the few sports to offer walk-on opportunities with no prior experience needed. The women's rowing program always seeks students who have an athletic background and a willingness to try something new while showing their fit and fight. In addition, UCLA students who join the program can eventually earn athletic-based scholarships.

More than half of the United States' women's rowing team at the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games started their careers as college walk-ons. The Bruins' upcoming informational meeting on Sept. 27 can be a first step toward an incredible future as a rower.

For questions, undergraduate students are encouraged to contact assistant coach Anthea Barnett (email: abarnett@athletics.ucla.edu).
