UCLA (0-3, 0-0) hits the road to begin Pac-12 Conference play on Friday night Sept. 28 at 6 p.m. PT/7 p.m. MT at Colorado (3-0, 0-0). The game will be televised by FS1. The Bruin IMG Radio Network will broadcast the contest, which will also be aired over Sirius/XM, 97.3 FM THE FAN, uclabruins.com and tunein.com and the TuneIn App. This will be the sixth time in the last eight seasons in which UCLA has begun the conference schedule on the road (2017 L at Stanford, 2015 W at Arizona, 2014 W at ASU, 2013 W at Utah, 2011 W at Oregon State).
The Bruins won last year's meeting with Colorado, played in the Rose Bowl on Sept. 30, by a 27-23 count. Quarterback Josh Rosen threw for 372 yards on the night. UCLA took a 21-10 lead early in the third quarter only to see CU answer with the next 10 points. JJ Molson kicked a pair of fourth quarter field goals to cap off drives which consumed over 10 minutes of clock time to give UCLA the win.
The last series meeting in Boulder was played (Nov. 3, 2016) on a Thursday night. UCLA ran out to a 10-7 halftime advantage in a game which featured a combined 25 penalties for 224 yards, two blocked kicks and five turnovers. Mike Fafaul threw a 39-yard scoring pass to Darren Andrews and Molson kicked a 48-yard field goal which resulted in the Bruin points. CU added a field goal in the third quarter to even the score at 10 heading into the final 15 minutes. Another field goal at the 6:02 mark and a punt return for a score lifted the Buffs to a 20-10 win.
First-year head coach Chip Kelly was named UCLA's head football coach on Nov. 25, 2017. Kelly compiled a 46-7 record in four seasons as the head coach at the University of Oregon (2009-12). During that span, his Duck teams captured first place or a share of first in the North Division of the conference (three outright conference championships 2009-11) and four BCS bowl games. Kelly guided Oregon to appearances in a National Championship Game (2010), two Rose Bowls (after 2011 and 2009 seasons) and the Fiesta Bowl following the 2012 season. He also has served as the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers (2016) and the Philadelphia Eagles (2013-15). Kelly was named the 2009 and 2010 Pac-10 Coach of the Year, 2010 Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year, 2010 Walter Camp Coach of the Year, 2010 Sporting News Coach of the Year, 2010 AFCA Coach of the Year Award and 2010 Associated Press Coach of the Year.
