UCLA gymnasts swept the Pac-12 Gymnastics weekly awards for the week of Jan. 7-13, as junior Kyla Ross won Gymnast of the Week, senior Katelyn Ohashi repeated as Specialist of the Week, and Margzetta Frazier earned Freshman of the Week honors.
The sweep is only the second ever in Pac-12 history. The first occurred on Feb. 9, 2016, when Sadiqua Bynum (Gymnast), Angi Cipra (Specialist) and Madison Preston (Freshman) won for UCLA.
Ross won the all-around for the second consecutive week, taking first at the Collegiate Challenge in Anaheim with a career-high-tying 39.700. Ross also scored her first perfect 10 of the season with a meet-winning 10.0 on uneven bars, her sixth perfect 10 overall and fourth on uneven bars in her career. In addition to winning bars, Ross placed second on vault with a 9.875, beam with a season-high 9.9 and floor with a 9.925.
Ohashi won Pac-12 Specialist of the Week honors for the second-straight week after winning floor exercise with a perfect 10 and balance beam with a near-perfect 9.975. The 10.0 on floor was her fourth of her career and her sixth overall. The viral superstar has scored 9.9 or higher on all four routines she has competed this season and currently ranks No. 1 in the nation on floor and No. 2 on beam.
Frazier scored 9.925 on both bars and floor and 9.825 on vault to help the Bruins record their season-best team total of 197.700 in a winning effort at the Collegiate Challenge. Frazier tied for second on floor and was fifth on vault in her collegiate debut on those events. On uneven bars, her leadoff mark of 9.925 earned her second place and helped UCLA record a season-best bars score of 49.450.
No. 2 UCLA will host No. 19 Arizona State on Monday, Jan. 21 at 2pm.
