LOS ANGELES – UCLA women's basketball signees Charisma Osborne and Jaden Owens have been named McDonald's All-Americans and will compete for the West team in the 2019 McDonald's All-American Game March 27 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta.
In addition to Stanford and South Carolina (three All-Americans each), UCLA was one of six teams boasting at least two McDonald's All-Americans. The Bruins' 2019 class was ranked third by BlueStar Report and ninth according to both espnW's Hoopgurlz rankings and Prospects Nation. In total, the Pac-12 Conference notched seven McDonald's All-Americans.
A five-star recruit out of Moreno Valley, Calif., Osborne was rated as the 10th-best player in the nation, as well as the third-best point guard, according to Prospects Nation. So far this season, Osborne is averaging 16.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists while shooting 85 percent from the free throw line. A two-time (2016-17; 2017-18) LA Times Player of the Year honoree, Osborne led Windward High School to the Southern Section Open Division championship and CIF State Open Division championship during her junior season. Rated the 22nd-best player in the country by espnW's HoopGurlz rankings, Osborne was named Ms. Basketball in the state of California as a junior.
Hailing from Plano, Texas, Owens was listed as a five-star recruit according to espnW's HoopGurlz, ranking 14th overall and third at the guard spot. Twenty-one games into her senior campaign, Owens is averaging 15.4 points, 4.2 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 3.1 steals per game. A four-year varsity starter and three-time team captain, Owens was named the District 6-6A Co-Offensive Player of the Year in 2017-18. Prospects Nation ranked Owens as the 23rd-best player in the country, as well as the fifth-best point guard in the land.
A total of 24 girls players from across the country were chosen to play in the contest. Boys and girls basketball players from 46 states and the District of Columbia were nominated by their high school coaches, athletic directors, principals, and members of the McDonald's All American Games Selection Committee according to the organization and final rosters were announced on ESPN's The Jump on Thursday afternoon.
