LOS ANGELES – UCLA junior second baseman Chase Strumpf has been named the First Team second baseman on Baseball America's Preseason All-America team, the outlet revealed on Monday morning. Baseball America's All-America teams are voted on by Major League Baseball scouting departments.

This is the fourth Preseason All-American First Team honor of the winter for Strumpf. He was previously honored by Collegiate Baseball, D1Baseball, and Perfect Game.

The Dana Point, Calif. native is coming off a breakout sophomore campaign for the Bruins. Hitting mostly in the three-hole, Strumpf had a healthy .363/.475/.633 slash line while leading the team in home runs (12) and committing just two errors in the field for a .992 fielding percentage. He earned All-Pac-12 and Second Team All-America honors after the season. In addition, he was invited to play on the prestigious United States Collegiate National Team (USCNT) over the summer.

Strumpf is not the only Bruin to have earned Preseason All-America status this offseason, as he was joined by junior first baseman Michael Toglia and junior outfielder Jeremy Ydens.

Led by a talented and experienced group of position players, UCLA has been ranked as high as No. 3 in preseason polls.

Baseball America annually polls major league organizations' scouting departments to vote on the team and asks that they make their selections based on performance, talent and professional potential. In the past, the Baseball America Preseason All-America team has been a predictor both of the first round of the draft and of team success.
