SAN FRANCISCO - Redshirt junior Rachel Garcia has been named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the conference on Tuesday. Garcia pitched in three of the Bruins' five victories last weekend at the Hawaii Paradise Classic, earning two wins and a save. She struck out 22 in 12 2/3 innings, allowing just three hits, two walks and one run.

Garcia opened the season in relief on Feb. 7 against UT Arlington. Of the five outs she recorded, four were via the strikeout, as Garcia allowed just one hit for the save. In her first start of the year on Feb. 8, the redshirt junior tossed a complete-game, one-hit shutout versus Hawaii, striking out 15. Garcia limited the Rainbow Wahine to three baserunners on a hit, a walk and a hit by pitch. She struck out at least one in every inning, including the side on three occasions and seven in a row at one point. Garcia rounded out the weekend with a win over Saint Mary's (Feb. 9). She fanned three in four innings, giving up one run, one hit and one walk.

Garcia's award is the eighth Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week accolade for her career. She won the honor four times last season and three times as a freshman in 2017.

The top-ranked Bruins host the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament, which starts on Friday at Easton Stadium. UCLA's first two games will be against Cal Poly (4:30 p.m.) and Boise State (7 p.m.) on Feb. 15. Free live audio will be available at UCLABruins.com.
