LOS ANGELES – With the MPSF Indoor Championships quickly approaching, the UCLA track & field team will split its team for a pair of meets this weekend.
The majority of the squad will head to the Don Kirby Collegiate Invitational, while the Bruins' distance runners will travel to Seattle for the Husky Classic.

The Don Kirby Collegiate Invitational will begin for the Bruins on Friday at 4 p.m. (MT) with the women's weight throw, women's high jump and men's and women's long jump. The unseeded round of the men's 400m will kick off the track events at 5 p.m. (MT), followed by the women at 5:30 p.m. The meet will continue on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. (MT) with the women's shot put.
The Husky Classic will begin for the Bruins on Friday at 3:30 p.m. (PT) with the women's 3000m, followed by the men's 3000m at 4:10 p.m. (PT). Gwyneth George will open Saturday's schedule for the Bruins at 11:25 a.m. (PT) with the 800m.

Last Meet
UCLA sent five athletes to the New Mexico Collegiate Classic, where freshman Sondre Guttormsen came away with another first-place finish in the pole vault, clearing 5.52m (18-1.25). His fellow teammate, sophomore Tate Curran, mustered a PR in the event, posting a mark of 5.32m (17-5.5) to take third in the collegiate division.
On day two, sophomore Nate Esparza took second in the shot put with a throw of 18.97m (62-3), while redshirt senior Elleyse Garrett cleared 4.11m (13-5.75) to earn fourth place in the pole vault.
Guttormsen competed in his first collegiate track event of his career, reaching the finals of the 60m hurdles and finishing sixth overall (8.39).
Freshman Phenom Breaks 41-Year-Old Record
At the Columbia Challenge on Jan. 26, Sondre Guttormsen made history in the pole vault when he cleared 5.71m (18-8.75) on his third attempt, which broke a 41-year-old UCLA indoor record. His mark trumped Mike Tully's indoor effort of 5.62m (18-5.25) set for the Bruins in 1978. Guttormsen, the second athlete ever to clear 18 feet at the National Pole Vault Summit, also tied Tully's outdoor mark of 5.71m and set a meet record for the Columbia Challenge.
Wilson Unbeaten in Shot Put
Sophomore Alyssa Wilson will look to remain perfect in the shot put this weekend at the Don Kirby Collegiate Invitational. She improved to 3-0 with a first-place finish at the Columbia Challenge on Jan. 25 when she posted a mark of 17.24m (56-6.75). In the season opener at the Northern Arizona Friday Night Duals, she threw 17.73m (58-2), a lifetime best and the second-best mark in UCLA's indoor history.
Bruins in the Polls
The UCLA men currently sit fourth in the West region with 211.84 points and 33rd overall with 28 points in the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Rating Index. On the women's side, the Bruins are 10th in the West (106.64 points) and 30th overall (28.99 points).
