UCLA junior outside hitter Austin Matautia was named the Offensive Player of the Week by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) on Monday. Matautia helped the Bruins to a pair of league wins over Pepperdine and Grand Canyon last week as UCLA climbed into sole possession of first-place in the MPSF standings.

Matautia recorded career-highs in kills (22) and digs (11) while leading UCLA back from a 0-2 deficit to defeat previously unbeaten Pepperdine. He had nine kills in the momentum-swinging third set and added six more in the decisive fifth set. Matautia handled 25 Wave serves with just one reception error for the match. At Grand Canyon, he tallied 10 of his 12 kills in the final two sets of a four-set victory while receiving 15 serves without error.

For the week, Matautia hit a combined .393 and averaged 3.8 kills and 4.1 points per set. He also handled 40 opponent serves with just one error. This is the first league award for Matautia.

The Bruins men's volleyball team (14-4, 6-0 in MPSF), ranked fifth this week by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), will play a pair of non-league contests on Friday, against Ohio State, and on Saturday, versus Penn State, as part of the Pac-12 / Big Ten Challenge hosted by USC. Both matches will begin at 5 p.m. in the Galen Center.
