HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - On a tough scoring day for the entire field at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, the Bruins sit in ninth place after 18 holes at the Long Cove Club. UCLA shot an 11-over 295 on Friday, but is just six shots out of fourth place.
Senior Beth Wu, junior Mariel Galdiano and sophomore Patty Tavatanakit are all tied for 28th following 2-over 73s. Wu made one birdie on the third and three bogeys, Galdiano had two birdies (No. 10 and 15), two bogeys and a double and Tavatanakit recorded two birdies (No. 10 and 14), a bogey and a triple. Junior Clare Legaspi is tied for 52nd after a 5-over 76. She made a birdie on the third and six bogeys. Freshman Phoebe Yue shot a 13-over 84 (T-87) on 10 bogeys and a triple.
The Bruins begin their second round on Saturday off the first tee at 8:30 a.m. ET/5:30 a.m. PT in the order of Yue, Legaspi, Tavatanakit, Wu and Galdiano.
