LOS ANGELES – UCLA junior right-hander Ryan Garcia was named the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday.

The Sierra Madre, Calif. native tossed seven scoreless innings on Saturday evening in the nightcap of a doubleheader with No. 8 East Carolina University, helping the Bruins to a 3-0 win that finished off a series sweep. Garcia struck out 13 Pirates, a career-high and the most single-game strikeouts by a Bruin in over five years.

This is Garcia's second career Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week honor, both of which have come in the last month. He was previously tabbed by the league on Mar. 25 after giving up one hit in 7 1/3 shutout innings against Arizona. Coupled with Zach Pettway's honor on Mar. 19, UCLA is the lone school to have three Pac-12 Pitchers of the Week so far this year.

Garcia struck out the side in both the second and fourth innings on Saturday, and had multiple strikeouts in four frames. After striking out 11 Stanford batters on Apr. 7, he is the first Bruin with double-digit strikeouts in consecutive appearances since Griffin Canning in 2017. The last UCLA hurler to accumulate 13 strikeouts in a single game was Cody Poteet against Michigan on Mar. 2, 2014.

He surrendered just three hits, and ECU only got one runner into scoring position against him all night – the leadoff batter. Garcia bounced back from that leadoff double, ending the inning with a 6-4-3 double play before limiting the Pirates to pair of singles the rest of the way.

Garcia received the win to improve to 4-0 on the year and lowered his ERA to 1.32. His 0.82 WHIP is the best in the Pac-12 among qualifying pitchers.

UCLA, which remained at No. 1 in the national rankings for the fifth consecutive week on Monday, is 26-7 on the year, tied for the best 33-game start in the John Savage era. The Bruins finish off an eight-game homestand this week by hosting Pepperdine on Monday night at 6:00 p.m. and California for a three-game series starting Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
