LOS ANGELES – UCLA sophomore right-handed pitcher Holden Powell remained on the Stopper of the Year Watch List, as the NCBWA announced its Midseason Update on Wednesday.

Powell is 2-2 on the season with a 2.13 ERA in 25 appearances. He paces the Pac-12 in both saves (11, fourth nationally) and games finished (24), making him the first Bruin to reach the 10-save mark since David Berg had 13 in 2015.

The Visalia, Calif. native is one of just five pitchers from the preseason watch list to make the 45-man Midseason Update.

Powell has been heating up in recent weeks. Since Mar. 17, he's gone 14 consecutive innings (spanning 13 appearances) without allowing an earned run. Over that span, he's struck out 20 while allowing just two hits. Overall, he's been charged with an earned run just four times in his 25 appearances.

The NCBWA has been handing out the Stopper of the Year Award since 2005.

Berg, now an undergraduate assistant coach with the Bruins, remains the only two-time winner of the award as he was crowned in both 2013 and 2015.

UCLA returns to Pac-12 action this weekend, hosting Utah for a three-game series starting on Friday night at 6:00 p.m.
