UCLA Finishes in Grand Finals at San Diego Crew Classic

UCLA's top two varsity eight boats finished in fifth place on Sunday.

SAN DIEGO – The UCLA women's rowing team concluded the two-day San Diego Crew Classic with five Grand Final races on Sunday morning.
 
UCLA's top two varsity eight crews finished in fifth place, while the Bruins' novice eight crew recorded a third-place finish. The varsity four finished sixth, while the Bruins' second varsity four posted a second-place finish.
 
The varsity eight posted a final time of 6:50.334, racing against a six-boat Grand Final field that included No. 1-ranked Washington, No. 2-ranked California, No. 3-ranked Stanford and No. 4-ranked Texas. The final order of finish among the six schools included California, Washington, Texas, Stanford, UCLA and Washington State, respectively.
 
UCLA's second varsity eight recorded a time of 6:58.214, going up against the same schools in that race. Stanford won the second varsity eight Grand Final, followed by Washington, California, Texas, UCLA and Washington State, respectively.
 
The novice eight crew from UCLA posted a third-place finish with a time of 7:21.524. Texas won the heat, followed by Washington, UCLA, Oklahoma, Sacramento State, Wisconsin and UC San Diego.
 
UCLA's second varsity four crew raced to a second-place finish, clocking in a time of 8:19.553. The Bruins finished behind Washington State (8:08.635) and crossed the finish line ahead of Oklahoma, Tennessee, San Diego State, San Diego and UC Santa Barbara, respectively.
 
The Bruins' varsity four finished behind first-place Washington, Stanford, Oklahoma, Texas and California.
 
UCLA will return to action at the two-day Clemson Invitational at Lake Hartwell (in South Carolina) on Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20.
