COLUMBUS, Ga. - A pair of Bruins are finalists for the ANNIKA Award presented by Stifel, as sophomore Patty Tavatanakit is in the Top 5, while junior Mariel Galdiano is on the Next 5 list.
The ANNIKA Award goes to the top player in women's college golf, as selected by college golfers, coaches and members of the golf media. Two Bruins have won the ANNIKA Award, Bronte Law in 2016 and Alison Lee in 2014. The winner will be announced on June 4, and will receive an exemption into the 2019 Evian Championship.
Tavatanakit won an NCAA Regional for the second year in a row, shooting an 8-under 208 in East Lansing earlier this week for her seventh career victory and third of the season (ANNIKA Intercollegiate, Dual Match versus Denver). She leads the Bruins with a 71.6 scoring average, having finished inside the Top 10 on six occasions. Including her victory at the NCAA Regional, she has tied for 22nd at the Pac-12 Championship and tied for 10th at the PING/ASU Invitational in her last three tournaments. Tavatanakit has 11 under-par rounds, with seven of those being in the 60s, shooting a 9-under 63 in the final round of the ANNIKA.
Galdiano is second with a 72.3 scoring average, having posted two victories at the Golfweek Conference Challenge and the Stanford Intercollegiate. She has four Top 10s and eight Top 20s, including a T-11 finish at the Silverado Showdown and a T-13 showing at Pac-12s prior to the NCAA Regional (T-53). Galdiano has nine under-par rounds and four in the 60s. Her best round of the season was a 9-under 62 at Stanford.
Next up for the Bruins is the NCAA Championship, which will take place May 17-22 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark.
