CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - Sophomore Patty Tavatanakit has been named to the watch list for the 2018-2019 PING WGCA Division I Player of the Year award, as announced on Tuesday.
The PING WGCA Player of the Year award is given annually to the best player in Division I women's golf. The top 60 players from the Golfstat and Golfweek/Sagarin rankings are considered. Each player must complete a minimum of 15 rounds during the competitive year, including NCAA Regionals.
UCLA has had two of the last three PING WGCA Players of the Year (Lilia Vu, 2018; Bronte Law, 2016).
Tavatanakit, who is also a member of the watch list for the ANNIKA Award, won an NCAA Regional for the second year in a row, shooting an 8-under 208 in East Lansing earlier this week for her seventh career victory and third of the season (ANNIKA Intercollegiate, Dual Match versus Denver). The Pac-12 First Team honoree leads the Bruins with a 71.6 scoring average, having finished inside the Top 10 on six occasions. Including her victory at the NCAA Regional, she has tied for 22nd at the Pac-12 Championship and tied for 10th at the PING/ASU Invitational in her last three tournaments. Tavatanakit has 11 under-par rounds, with seven of those being in the 60s, shooting a 9-under 63 in the final round of the ANNIKA.
Next up for the Bruins is the NCAA Championship, which will take place May 17-22 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark.
