COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The 2019 USA Basketball Women's U19 World Cup Team trials and trials for the U.S. Pan American Games have begun at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Charisma Osborne, who will be a UCLA freshman entering the 2019-20 school year, was one of 31 athletes selected to compete at the U19 World Cup team trials. Invitations were issued by the USA Basketball Women's National Team Committee, chaired by George Washington University head coach Jennifer Rizzotti. After the 12-member roster is selected, the team will return to Colorado Springs for training camp on July 5-19, with the U19 World Cup competition taking place July 20-28 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Serving as an assistant coach for the U19 World Cup Team is The Michael Price Family UCLA Women's Head Basketball Coach Cori Close. This marks Close's third USA Basketball coaching assignment after she was an assistant coach for the 2018 U18 National Team and a court coach a the 2017 U23 National Team Training Camp. Serving as the head coach for the 2019 U19 World Cup Team is Jeff Walz (Louisville), assisted by Close and Natasha Adair (Delaware).
UCLA sophomore Michaela Onyenwere is one of 35 athletes competing for a spot on the 12-member roster for the 2019 Pan American Games. The roster is expected to be released on May 20. After the roster is finalized, the team members will return to Colorado Springs for training camp July 23-Aug. 5, before competing in the women's basketball tournament a the 2019 Pan American Games from Aug. 6-10 in Lima, Peru.
Suzy Merchant (Michigan State) will lead the team as USA's head coach, with assistant coaches Felisha Legette-Jack (Buffalo) and Vic Schaefer (Mississippi State).
