SAN FRANCISCO – The Pac-12 Conference announced its Beach Volleyball All-Academic teams and six Bruin student-athletes from the NCAA National Championship squad made the grade in 2019, as announced by Commissioner Larry Scott.

Seniors Izzy Carey, Megan McNamara, Nicole McNamara, and junior Lily Justine were all selected as Pac-12 First Team All-Academic performers. Senior Zana Muno and junior Savvy Simo both received Pac-12 Honorable Mention All-Academic honors.

Carey, the 2019 Pac-12 Beach Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, earned her third straight First Team honor. For the McNamaras, it was also their third-consecutive Pac-12 All-Academic honor, being named to the Second Team in 2017 and to the First Team in 2018 and 2019. Justine earned First Team plaudits for the first time in her career after being named to the Second Team a year ago. It also marked  the second straight year that Muno and Simo received Honorable Mention honors.

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and appear in at least 50 percent of their team's dual matches while having completed at least one full academic year at the institution.

UCLA won its second consecutive NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship on Sunday, May 5, 2019, downing crosstown rival and top-seeded USC, 3-0 in the championship match in Gulf Shores, Ala. The championship-clinching victory came on court three, as Muno and freshman Abby Van Winkle defeated USC's Haley Hallgren and Alexandra Poletto, 22-20, 21-13. The Bruins did not lose a match during the tournament, posting a perfect 4-0 record while also defeating Hawai'i (3-2), Florida State (3-0) and LSU (3-0). UCLA, led by Head Coach Stein Metzger, finished the season with a 35-3 overall record. Both of the Bruins' pairs on courts three and five, Muno and Van Winkle and Carey and freshman Lindsey Sparks were all named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team. The win marked UCLA's 117th NCAA Championship across all sports.
