STANFORD, Calif. - The second-ranked Bruins clinched their seventh Pac-12 series on Sunday, blanking Stanford, 4-0. Freshman Megan Faraimo and sophomore Holly Azevedo combined to pitch a three-hit shutout, while redshirt sophomore Aaliyah Jordan and freshman Colleen Sullivan each hit home runs.
Faraimo (15-3) struck out four in four innings, giving up two hits and two walks. She struck out a pair in the fourth and had a 1-2-3 frame in the second. Azevedo earned her first save of the season, fanning two in three innings of relief and allowing a hit and one walk, posting a 1-2-3 frame in the fifth.
UCLA (45-3, 19-2 Pac-12) had 10 hits from eight different players, as Jordan and redshirt junior Rachel Garcia each posted two-hit contests.
The Bruins scored a pair of runs in the first. Sophomore Briana Perez posted a one-out double and came home on a single to left by Garcia. One out later, Jordan singled up the middle, as Garcia took third, and when Stanford (32-15, 8-10 Pac-12) made an error, Garcia scampered home with UCLA's second run.
UCLA added solo home runs in the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth, Sullivan led off with a shot to left, her fifth of the season, to make it 3-0. Jordan added one more to the Bruins' column in the fifth with a two-out bomb to center, her ninth of the year.
UCLA, which holds a two-game lead in the Pac-12 Conference standings over Arizona (17-4) and Washington (17-4), host Arizona for a three-game series next weekend, starting on Thursday at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on Pac-12 Networks.
