LOS ANGELES – UCLA right-handed pitcher Holden Powell was named one of six finalists for the Stopper of the Year Award, it was announced on Thursday by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).

Other finalists include Garrett Acton of Illinois, Kyle Hill of Baylor, Jake Wallace of Connecticut, Aaron Ochsenbein of Eastern Kentucky, and Tyler Brown of Vanderbilt. Powell is one of just two sophomores to be named a finalist for the award, which is handed out annually to college baseball's top relief pitcher as voted on by NCBWA members.

The recipient of this year's award will be announced on Saturday, Jun. 15 at a news conference at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha at 8:00 a.m. PT.

Former UCLA closer David Berg remains the lone multi-time winner of the award, which was incepted in 2005. Berg took home the honor in both 2013 and 2015.

Powell has a 3-3 record with a 1.84 ERA and 17 saves this season over 39 appearances. His save total ranks second in the country and in UCLA single-season history, trailing only the NCAA-record 24 recorded by Berg in 2013. Powell's 23 career saves also rank second in school history.

The Visalia, Calif. native had a 20-inning streak without allowing an earned run from Mar. 22 to May 5 and has been scored upon just twice in his last 22 outings dating back to Mar. 18. He's lowered his ERA from 4.76 to 1.84 in that span, and has 60 strikeouts in just 44 innings for a team-high 12.3 strikeouts per nine innings ratio.

Powell is currently riding a 9 1/3-inning streak without having allowed a hit or run.
