Recent UCLA graduate Maria Polyakova is slated to compete in the 18th FINA World Championships, which will run from Jul. 12-28 in Gwangju, South Korea. Polyakova will compete in both 1-meter and 3-meter synchronized diving.

The Moscow, Russia native is slated to open with 1-meter prelims on Friday afternoon, with the final slated for Saturday. Both the prelims and final for 3-meter synchro are scheduled for Monday. The top eight divers from prelims advance to the final.

Polyakova qualified for the World Championships after finishing runner-up in both 1M and 3MS at the Russian summer national championships in Kazan in May.

The 2019 graduate is coming off a historic senior season at UCLA, as she was named the CSCAA National Diver of the Year and Pac-12 Diver of the Year after winning the individual NCAA Championship in 3-meter diving while finishing runner-up in 1-meter at NCAAs. She ended her career as the UCLA record-holder in both 1M (355.50) and 3M (398.75) while taking home eight CSCAA All-America awards.

Thanks in part to the exploits of Polyakova and teammate Eloise Belanger – whose 38 points at the NCAA Championships led all divers – UCLA's Tom Stebbins was named the CSCAA Diving Coach of the Year, becoming just the second Pac-12 coach ever to take home the honor.
