Bruin alum Patrick Cantlay was named as one of the top eight qualifiers for the 2019 United States team for the upcoming Presidents Cup, which will take place Dec. 9-15 at The Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Melbourne, Australia. It marks the first Presidents Cup appearance for Cantlay.
In 20 events during the 2018-2019 season, Cantlay has five Top 3 showings, including a win at the Memorial Tournament in June. Cantlay is coming off a second-place finish at the BMW Championship on Sunday to put him in second in the season-long FedExCup standings ahead of this week's TOUR Championship (Aug. 22-25) in Atlanta. The winner of the TOUR Championship will receive $15 million.
Cantlay, who this season has also finished second at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open (Nov. 2018) and tied for third at the RBC Heritage (April ) and the PGA Championship (May), has nine Top 10s on the season, earning just over $6 million.
