Trevithick scores game-winner in 87th minute.

Irvine, Calif. - Freshman Kali Trevithick scored the game-winning goal in the 87th minute to lead UCLA to a 2-1 win over UC Irvine in an exhibition contest at Anteater Stadium.

Trevithick, who also assisted on the Bruins' first goal, scored from the top of the box off a cross by Ashley Sanchez with 86:37 left in the game.

Sanchez also set up the Bruins' first goal, at 29:01, sending a cross to freshman Mia Fishel, who beat UC Irvine goalkeeper Glo Hinojosa with a shot in the box.

The Bruins nearly scored again in the 34th minute, but Viviana's curling free kick went off the right post.

UC Irvine started out the second half on fire, with Aleah Kelley forcing a save on the Anteaters first shot of the game, in the 47th minute. Just one minute after that, the Anteaters tied the game on a goal by Jessica Miclat, at 47:33.

The Bruins had a flurry of opportunities in the 86th minute to score the go-ahead goal, but a cross in the box went just a bit high, and a follow-up shot from distance by Marley Canales was saved. The Anteaters' reprieve was short-lived, however, as Trevithick scored the game-winner just a minute later.

In the Bruins' two exhibition games this weekend, Trevithick recorded two goals and two assists. Sanchez had one goal and two assists.

UCLA will officially open its season on Friday, Aug. 23 at 7pm against Iowa State at Wallis Annenberg Stadium.
