Senior center Boss Tagaloa and redshirt junior tight end Devin Asiasi have been selected to the 2019 Watch List for the Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Award. The award is presented annually to the most outstanding Polynesian college football player who exhibits great ability as well as integrity. The finalists and winner will be chosen by the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Selection committee.
Tagaloa started the last nine games of the 2018 season at center for the Bruins. He helped pave the way for running back Joshua Kelley who rushed for at least 100 yards in six of those last nine contests and went on to finish with 1,243 yards, the 10th-highest single-season rushing total in school history. Kelley compiled 1,216 of his rushing yards with Tagaloa playing at center.
Asiasi led UCLA receivers with an average of 21.7 yards per catch in 2018. He scored a touchdown on his first reception as a Bruin, a 24-yard play against Arizona. Asiasi had five catches on the season of at least 20-yards – 30 Arizona State, 25 Stanford, 24 Arizona, 23 Oregon, 22 Oregon.
The winner of the 2019 Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Award will be announced on December 17. Five finalists will be unveiled on December 5. The presentation of the award will take place during the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Week Celebration Dinner at the Sheraton Waikiki on January 17. The winner will also be recognized at halftime of the Polynesian Bowl on January 18 in Aloha Stadium.
