Senior long snapper Johnny Den Bleyker has been selected as one of 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award for football. The award honors senior student-athletes who excel both on and off the field in the areas of community, classroom, character and competition.
Den Bleyker is in his fourth season as long snapper for the Bruins. In additional to handling his snapping duties, Den Bleyker has been credited with two fumble recoveries on punt coverage. The last two seasons, he has been selected to the watch list for the Long Snapper of the Year Award. Den Bleyker was a second-team All-Pac-12 selection by Phil Steele following the 2018 season.
In the classroom, Den Bleyker has been listed on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll in eight different quarters after posting at least a 3.0 GPA for the term. In 2018, he was named to the Pac-12 All-Academic Team.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
To determine the final Senior CLASS Award winner, the 30 football candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition. Along with the winner, the 10 finalists will be awarded Senior CLASS Award first-or second-team honors.
