LOS ANGELES – The No. 23-ranked UCLA swim and dive team will host its first home dual meet of the Jordan Wolfrum era on Friday afternoon, welcoming in Pac-12 rival Utah for a showdown beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Divers will not be competing in the meet.

The Bruins (1-0) opened the season with a convincing 165-120 win at the San Diego Pentathlon on Sept. 13. UCLA had the first-place finisher in all nine events at the meet – featuring USD and San Diego State – as well as the overall pentathlon champion in Kenisha Liu (4:51.64). Overall, the Bruins had 14 of the top-25 pentathlon times among all swimmers.

More recently, the Bruins kicked off their home schedule with the annual Blue vs. Gold intrasquad meet, which saw the Gold team run away with a 227-149 triumph.

The Utes are also 1-0 after topping Arizona 174-126 in a dual meet in Salt Lake City on Oct. 4. They received votes in the CSCAA Preseason Poll.

UCLA narrowly edged Utah 156-144 on Oct. 27, 2018 to kick off the 2018-19 season. Since-graduated seniors Maria Polyakova (1M, 3M) and Sandra Soe (500 free, 1000 free) were key to the Bruin triumph, taking home multiple event wins. The Bruins won 10 of 16 events overall at Reddish Pool.

The 2019-20 Bruins are anchored by a strong nucleus of returning NCAA Qualifiers including Liu, Amy Okada, Claire Grover, Delaney Smith, and Maisie Jameson.

UCLA also boasts the No. 8 overall class of newcomers, as judged by SwimSwam. Key freshmen include Gabby Dang (Bothell, Wash.), Sophia Kosturos (Orinda, Calif.), Brooke Schaffer (Mountain View, Calif.), Rachel Rhee (Encinitas, Calif.), Daniella Hawkins (San Ramon, Calif.), and Lauryn Johnson (Rockville Centre, N.Y.).
