STANFORD, Calif. - The Bruins completed the first round of the Stanford Intercollegiate at the Stanford Golf Course on Friday and are in sixth place following a 6-over 290. UCLA is just 12 shots back of first-place Arizona State (-6, 278) in the tightly-bunched field.

Freshmen Ty Akabane and Emma Spitz each posted even-par 71s on Friday and are both tied for 18th. Spitz recorded four birdies on No. 15, 1, 2 and 9 and four bogeys, while Akabane, playing as an individual, made a pair of birdies on No. 12 and 4 and a double bogey.

Freshman Emilie Paltrinieri is tied for 23rd after posting a 1-over 72. She made five birdies (No. 15, 1, 5, 7 and 8), three bogeys and a triple. Freshman Yuki Yoshihara is tied for 32nd (+2, 73), recording a birdie on the 14th and three bogeys. Freshman Annabel Wilson made back-to-back birdies on No. 6 and 7 and five bogeys in a 3-over 74, putting her in a tie for 45th. Sophomore Simar Singh is tied for 79th (+7, 78), making a birdie on the eighth, six bogeys and a double.

The Bruins begin their second round on Saturday at 12 p.m. off the first tee in the order of Singh, Wilson, Yoshihara, Paltrinieri and Spitz. Akabane tees off the first hole at 12:33 p.m.
