Women's Tennis Sending Five to Tournaments

October 02, 2019 | Women's Tennis

LOS ANGELES โ€“ The UCLA women's tennis team will send five players to tournaments in Malibu, Calif. and Tulsa, Okla. beginning Thursday, with play extending through Sunday, Oct. 13.

Newcomers Annette Goulak and Sasha Vagramov will make their debuts as Bruins at the Women's Collegiate Invitational at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center on the campus of Pepperdine. Goulak, an Oak Park, Calif. native, transferred from Georgia with two seasons of eligibility remaining. Vagramov is a freshman heralded as a Blue-Chip talent by Tennis-Recruiting.net, hailing from Port Moody, B.C., Canada. They will be joined by sophomore Taylor Johnson, who turned in records of 11-10 (singles) and 17-4 (doubles) during the 2018-19 campaign.

Sophomore Elysia Bolton and redshirt senior Jada Hart, meanwhile, will head to the University of Tulsa's LaFortune Tennis Center and Michael D. Case Center for the ITA All-American Championships. Both players participated in the 2018 event at Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., where they advanced out of doubles qualifying and earned a main-draw victory.

LAST WEEK
Hart started her redshirt-senior campaign with a bang, reaching the Oracle ITA Masters singles final as the tournament's No. 5 seed. Her marquee win of the weekend came in the quarterfinals, when she defeated the nation's No. 1 player, Katarina Jokic of Georgia, 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(5). Hart previously lost to Jokic in the quarters of May's NCAA singles tournament. The Colton, Calif. native did not surrender more than two games in any of her other six winning sets, including a 6-2, 6-1 semifinal-round display against the tournament's No. 1 seed, Natasha Subhash of Virginia.

Freshman Abbey Forbes also shined, reaching the singles semifinals in her debut. Included among the Raleigh, N.C. native's four wins were straight-set triumphs versus No. 31 Paola Delgado of VCU and No. 17 Anna Turati of Texas.
