DOUBLE DOUBLEHEADER
No. 18 UCLA will host the Washington schools this week in a pair of doubleheaders with the UCLA men's team. On Thursday, Oct. 24, the Bruin men and women each host Washington. The men's game will take place first at 5pm, followed by the women's game at 8pm. On Sunday, Oct. 27, the women take the stage first, hosting No. 19 Washington State at 12pm before the UCLA men host Oregon State at 3pm.
SENIOR SALUTE
Prior to Sunday's match, at approximately 11:45am, UCLA will honor seniors Chloe Castaneda, Sunny Dunphy, Jessie Fleming, Kaiya McCullough, Teagan Micah, Anika Rodriguez and Maki Umehara.The senior class has advanced to the NCAA Round of 16 in each of the last three years and to the NCAA Championship match in 2017. They have played in a combined 441 games, with 299 starts.
WORLD CUP DAY
In addition to honoring the UCLA seniors, Sunday's game will be World Cup Day, with UCLA recognzing its World Cup players, including 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup participants Jessie Fleming and Teagan Micah. Two members of UCLA's coaching staff also played in World Cups - Amanda Cromwell in 1995 and Jenny Bindon in 2007 and 2011. The Bruins have six other players who have played in Under-17 or Under-20 World Cups - Marley Canales (2016 U-20), Mia Fishel (2018 U-17), Sunshine Fontes (2018 U-17), Maricarmen Reyes (2018 U-20), Karina Rodriguez (2018 U-20, 2016 U-17), Ashley Sanchez (2018, 2016 U-20; 2016 U-17) and Viviana Villacorta (2018 U-20).
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
Washington enters the week ranked No. _ in the United Soccer Coaches poll and No. 25 in the Top Drawer Soccer poll with a 9-3-2 overall and 5-1-0 Pac-12 record. The Huskies' only conference loss was at Stanford. Summer Yates leads Washington in scoring with six goals, five assists and 17 points. Kennedy Smith has four goals, three of which were game-winners. The Huskies are coached by Lesle Gallimore, the longest-tenured soccer coach in the conference in her 26th and final year.
THE SERIES WITH WASHINGTON
UCLA holds a 19-4-2 advantage over Washington in the all-time series and has won three straight., including last year's 2-0 win in Seattle. Ashley Sanchez and Delanie Sheehan scored for the Bruins in that game, and Teagan Micah earned the shutout, making four saves. The Huskies last win came in 2015.

THE SERIES WITH WASHINGTON STATE
UCLA leads the all-time series, 17-5-4, but Washington State has held the upper hand the last two years, winning in 2018 and 2017 by 1-0 margins. UCLA's last win came in 2016, 2-1. Bruin goalkeeper Teagan Micah not only recorded four saves in the game, but she also picked up an assist on the game's first goal.
FISHING FOR GOALS
Freshman forward Mia Fishel has made a quick impact for the Bruins in her first year, leading the team in goals scored with seven and game-winning goals with three. She is tied with Ashley Sanchez for the team lead in points with 16. Fishel has two multiple goal games, knocking in two in the 4-0 win at Hawaii and both goals in the 2-0 win over Utah.
SANCHEZ SECOND IN CAREER ASSISTS
Junior forward Ashley Sanchez is now in sole possession of second place on UCLA's career assist list with 33. She moved past Sam Mewis and Sarah Killion with an assist on the game-winner against Utah. The Bruins' all-time assist leader is Iris Mora, who recorded 38 from 2002-05.
RETURNS FOR RODRIGUEZ, REYES
After missing the last 11 games of the season last year with a knee injury, fifth-year senior Anika Rodriguez has made it back to the pitch. Rodriguez made her return to competition on Sept. 5 at Santa Clara and earned her first start of the season against Arizona State, playing in a season-high 48 minutes and recording her first point with an assist. She has started in a total of three games this year, all UCLA victories. Sophomore midfielder Maricarmen Reyes, who had knee surgery in the offseason, made her first appearance of the season on Saturday at Stanford, playing eight minutes in the second half and recording one shot. Reyes earned Pac-12 All-Freshman honors a year ago after scoring three goals in 21 games.
MILESTONES FOR MICAH
It's been quite a 2019 for senior goalkeeper Teagan Micah. After spending the summer with the Australian Women's National Team at the World Cup, Micah returned for her final season in Westwood and hit several major milestones during non-conference play. She earned her 200th career save in the season opening shutout win over Iowa State, recorded her 50th career win in the shutout victory over Florida, and earned her 30th career shutout against Wisconsin. She also won a Pac-12 record eighth Goalkeeper of the Week award on Sept. 3 and was named the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week on Sept. 17 after making a season-high five saves in the shutout win over Wisconsin. Micah, who has five solo and one shared shutout and a 0.75 goals against average, has moved into third on UCLA's all-time saves chart with 224 and is third with 53 career wins. With 31 shutouts, she moved into a tie for third on UCLA's career shutout list.
SWEET 16 FOR SANCHEZ
Ashley Sanchez ran her school record point scoring streak to 16 games after scoring in the first three games of the season. Her streak ran from Sept. 30, 2018 to Aug. 29, 2019, and she totaled nine goals and 16 assists (35 points) during that time. With just over two seasons under her belt, Sanchez already ranks second on UCLA's career list with 33 assists and is just five away from tying Iris Mora's school record of 38. Sanchez leads the team with six assists and is tied for the team lead with 16 points.
MAINSTAYS
Six Bruin players have started in all 14 games this season - Ashley Sanchez, Kaiya McCullough, Karina Rodriguez, Viviana Villacorta, Lucy Parker, and Delanie Sheehan. All six, along with Jessie Fleming, have logged over 1,000 minutes this year. Two other players have played in all 14 games - Mia Fishel and Chloe Castaneda. McCullough has made 66 consecutive starts, the only game she has not started coming on Oct. 23, 2016 due to illness. Rodriguez has started in 42 consecutive games. Parker started every game at LSU in 2017 and 2018 and has a streak of 56 consecutive starts. She leads the team in minutes played with 1,275.
UCLA DEBUTS
Six Bruins made their official UCLA debuts in the season opener - junior transfer Lucy Parker, redshirt freshman Shana Flynn, and freshmen Mia Fishel, Kali Trevithick, Rachel Lowe and Brianne Riley. Four more freshmen earned their first collegiate appearances at Hawaii on Sept. 22 - Kylie Kerr, Jackie Gilday, Brecken Mozingo and Janae DeFazio. Fishel leads the Bruin freshmen in games played and started with 14 and 11, respectively. Brianne Riley is next in games played with 12. She has also made one start.
IN THE RANKINGS
After a one-goal loss to No. 2 Stanford, the Bruins dropped down two spots to No. 18 in the United Soccer Coaches poll. They are also No. 18 in Top Drawer Soccer's poll. Washington is receiving votes in the coaches poll and is ranked No. 25 by Top Drawer Soccer, while Washington State is No. 19 in the coaches poll and No. 13 in Top Drawer Soccer's poll.
FLEMING SELECTED SENIOR CLASS AWARD FINALIST
UCLA team captain and international star Jessie Fleming has been selected as one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award for women's soccer. The award honors student-athletes who excel both on and off the field. Fleming is a two-time World Cup player and Olympic bronze medalist who has already amassed 69 caps for the Canadian Women's National Team. As a sophomore at UCLA in 2017, she was a finalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy and earned first-team All-America honors. During her freshman year in 2016, she led UCLA in scoring with 11 goals and 27 points. In 2018, she missed half the season while on Canadian National Team duty yet still recorded five goals and five assists in just 11 games. This season, she has totaled eight points on two goals and four assists. Fleming is a three-time first-team All-Pac-12 honoree and was Top Drawer Soccer's Freshman of the Year in 2016. She was also just the fourth UCLA freshman ever to earn NSCAA All-America honors. Top Drawer Soccer currently rates her No. 2 in the Top 100 Player rankings.
The Bruins' team captain the last three years, Fleming is also a leader in the classroom, earning honor roll distinction four times and honorable mention Pac-12 All-Academic honors twice in one of the most challenging majors on campus โ materials engineering (with an environmental science minor). This summer, she earned a 4.0 GPA in her summer courses. Additionally, she is volunteering with a company that collects and redistributes extra produce from farmer's markets.
BRUINS ON MIDSEASON TOP 100
Six Bruins are currently listed on Top Drawer Soccer's midseason Top 100 upperclassman list, including two in the Top 4 - No. 2 Jessie Fleming and No. 4 Ashley Sanchez. Fleming and Sanchez each made the TDS Preseason Best XI first-team. Also rated in the Top 100 are No. 39 Karina Rodriguez, No. 51 Viviana Villacorta, No. 60 Lucy Parker, and No. 72 Delanie Sheehan. Additionally, Mia Fishel ranks No. 15 on the Freshman midseason Top 100.
SUMMER SCHOOL STANDOUTS
A total of five Bruins earned 4.0 GPAs for their 2019 summer courses, which ended in mid-September - senior Chloe Castaneda, junior Jessie Fleming and freshmen Jackie Gilday, Hannah Mitchell and Kali Trevithick.
WORLD CUP BRUINS
Seniors Jessie Fleming and Teagan Micah were two of six Bruins who played in the 2019 Women's World Cup in France this summer. Fleming started all four of Canada's games, logging 360 minutes, the most of any collegiate player. She scored her first World Cup goal in a 2-0 win over New Zealand and was named the FIFA Player of the Match. Micah was a reserve goalkeeper for the Australian team, which fell in penalties in the Round of 16. Other Bruins playing in the World Cup were Americans Abby Dahlkemper, Sam Mewis and Mal Pugh, and New Zealand's Rosie White.
BRUINS VS. THE WORLD
While Jessie Fleming and Teagan Micah were representing their respective countries at the World Cup, 20 of their Bruin teammates were representing the U.S. at the World University Games in Italy. The U.S. finished the tournament with a 2-2 record, dropping close 2-1 decisions against Italy and Japan to start but closing strong with a 4-0 win over South Africa and a 3-1 victory over Mexico. The Bruins had three goals from Ashley Sanchez and two each from Mia Fishel and Olivia Athens. Lauren Brzykcy recorded 10 saves vs. Japan and had a shutout against South Africa.
CROMWELL CLIMBING COACHING CHARTS
UCLA head coach Amanda Cromwell is making a quick rise up the coaching charts in winning percentage and victories. With a 325-121-40 record at the start of the 2019 season, she ranked No. 15 in winning percentage (.710) and No. 18 in victories (325) among all active Division I coaches. All-time, she is at No. 16 in winning percentage and No. 21 in victories.
THREE ON MAC HERMANN TROPHY WATCH LIST
Three members of the Bruin team have been selected to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List for 2019, including 2017 finalist Jessie Fleming, 2018 semifinalist Ashley Sanchez and LSU transfer and 2018 third-team All-American Lucy Parker. The MAC Hermann Trophy, presented by World Wide Technology, is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer and is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female players of the year. This year's winners will be announced Friday, Jan. 4, 2019 at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
ELLIS TO BE INDUCTED INTO UCLA ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME NOV. 1
Former UCLA head coach Jill Ellis will be inducted into the UCLA Athletic Hall of Fame on Nov. 1. Ellis, the winningest coach in UCLA women's soccer history, posted a 229-45-14 record over 12 years (1999-2010) and led UCLA to eight College Cup appearances, including seven in a row from 2003-09. She won seven Pac-10 titles during her tenure and coached 13 Bruins to 24 NSCAA All-America honors. She left UCLA to join the U.S. Women's National Teams in 2011 and went on to become the head coach in 2014. Ellis led the U.S. to back-to-back FIFA Women's World Cup titles in 2015 and 2019, becoming only the second coach in men's or women's World Cup history to accomplish this feat. She recently won the FIFA World Coach of the Year award for Women's Football for the second time and completed her tenure as head coach of the U.S. Women's National Team as the winningest coach in USWNT history with a 106-7-19 overall record.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Bruins will travel to Oregon to take on Oregon State on Oct. 31 and Oregon on Nov. 3 before wrapping up the regular season with the Crosstown Showdown against USC at Wallis Annenberg Stadium on Nov. 8.
