LOS ANGELES -- No. 2 UCLA (15-1) concluded its 2019 non-conference slate by completing a sweep of the Golden Coast Conference with a 16-7 win at No. 14 UC Irvine (6-10) on Sunday at Anteater Aquatics Complex. With the victory, the Bruins improved to 78-60-1 all-time against UC Irvine. On the year, UCLA has gone 2-0 against GCC member UC Santa Barbara, and 1-0 against Long Beach State, Pacific, San José State, UC Irvine and Pepperdine.

The Bruins were led by sophomore Ashworth Molthen who had a career-high four goals to go with three assists and two steals in the win over the Anteaters. Junior Felix Brozyna-Vilim and sophomore Jake Cavano each completed hat tricks. Redshirt senior Alex Wolf played the entire game in the cage, registering a season-high-tying 15 saves while allowing seven goals.

UCLA led the Anteaters 6-1 at the end of the first period. Brozyna-Vilim scored two of his goals at two meters in the opening period (6:43 and 2:34). Cavano (1:33), freshman Andy Rodgers (3:48), and redshirt freshman Henry Wilde (0:41) each scored one goal from the front court. Molthen also converted a penalty shot (4:39) in the opening quarter to give the Bruins a lead they would never relinquish.

The Bruins put another six-spot on the scoreboard in the second quarter to put the game away. Junior Nicolas Saveljic scored twice in the period, a shot from the front court (3:39) and then a goal on a power play (1:43). Brozyna-Vilim completed his hat trick with another goal at set (7:33). Cavano netted his second of the game on a power play (5:14). Molthen added his second of the contest on a power play as well (0:58). Freshman Tommy Gruwell scored his only goal of the game from the front court (6:48) to help UCLA build a 12-3 lead at the break.

UCLA won the third period, 3-2, to take a 15-5 lead into the fourth. Molthen completed his hat trick with an exclusion goal (6:15) and tallied his fourth on a counter (1:31) to give the Bruins a 14-5 lead. Rodgers ended the scoring in the third with his second goal of the game on a strike from the front court (0:48).

UC Irvine won the fourth quarter, 2-1. Cavano scored the only goal of the quarter for UCLA to complete his hat trick on a power play with 6:28 to go.

The Bruins return to action next week when they return home to open up MPSF play with No. 8 California on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1:00 p.m. PT.
